League 1 round-up: Batchelor stars for York, Hunslet come from behind, Doncaster edge Oldham

There were a few close games in League 1 on the weekend.

Hunslet came from being 16-0 behind to beat Keighley Cougars 24-16 at Cougar Park. Josh Lynam, Hamish Barnes and Ritchie Hawkyard were all sin-binned for the Cougars, while Mike Emmett was sent off late on for dissent. Hunslet forward Lewis Reed was sent off in the first half for a high tackle.

Workington Town consolidated their place in the League 1’s top five with a 36-22 victory over North Wales Crusaders at Queensway Stadium. Sam Forrester, Oliver Wilkes, Ben Morris, Sean Penkywicz and Tom Curwen scored Workington’s tries.

Whitehaven grinded out a 12-8 win over Newcastle Thunder at the Recreation Ground on Sunday. Dave Thompson and Jessie Joe Parker got on the scoresheet for Haven.

Doncaster kept Oldham out in the second half to come away with a 26-22 scoreline at the Keepmoat Stadium. Hakim Miloudi, Jack Logan, Jack Downs and Jez Litten all featured for the Dons on dual-registration from Hull FC. Jordie Hedges and Danny Langtree were both sin-binned for headbutts.

Bradford Bulls secured a comfortable 58-12 victory over London Skolars at New River Stadium on Saturday. Dane Chisholm scored two tries and kicked seven goals for the Bulls, while Ethan Ryan bagged a hat-trick. Jordan Lilley also scored for Bradford.

Joe Batchelor, who will play for St Helens next year, scored four tries as York City Knights picked up an impressive 68-6 win over Coventry Bears at Bootham Crescent on Sunday. Josh Jordan-Roberts scored two for York, while Jack Ormondroyd also crossed for a try.

Hemel Stags completed a double over West Wales Raiders thanks to a 30-22 win at Pennine Way. Matt Welham and Corey Hanson scored two each for the Stags.

Bradford and York are joint top of the table, with Workington, Whitehaven and Oldham currently in the top five.
