League 1 outfit Oldham RLFC have announced free entry for their upcoming clash against Dewsbury Rams at the Vestacare Stadium on May 21.

Dewsbury, who were relegated from the Championship last year, currently sit at the top of the League 1 table and are unbeaten in seven games so far in 2023.

Stuart Littler’s Oldham currently sit third in the league table with four wins from five.

The side first travel to Workington in Round Eight of the League 1 competition, before hosting Liam Finn’s Dewsbury the following weekend on Sunday, May 21.

Oldham RLFC confirm free admission for upcoming tie

Oldham shared in a statement: “To mark the occasion our new board has taken the decision to stand all match costs; to waive admission prices; and to let everybody in free of charge — not just under-16s, which is normal, but free for all in the hope that the Vestacare will be rocking for this top-of-the-table spectacular, the result of which could go a long way to determining who finishes top.”

Oldham believe the decision will help maintain the club’s ‘feel-good momentum’ as well as the hope of attracting fans of all ages, both old and new.

Managing director Mike Ford added: “We’re making a statement of intent — we are on this journey together and we want everyone to feel they are involved.

Oldham have stated that they will reimburse season ticket holders, as well as anyone who has already purchased a ticket online. Supporters must still order a ticket online for the upcoming League 1 fixture.

“We’ve got to have some control over an initiative like this — for numbers, for example — and this is one way we can do it,” Ford added.

Oldham legend Ford alongside local businessman Mick Harrington are leading a group that have recently purchased the League 1 club.

Ford, now 57, made almost 200 appearances for Oldham in the 80s, 90s and early 00s.
