It would be a memory cherished forever in the Lam household if Adrian and Lachlan helped Leigh gain promotion to Super League.

Papua New Guinea superstar Lachlan linked up with his dad Adrian at the Centurions back in July.

This isn’t Lachlan’s first time of living in England. He actually started his rugby career in Lancashire, playing for Wigan St Patricks as a junior whilst his father played for Super League giants Wigan in the early 2000s.

“Funnily enough I can remember most of my time here,” Lachlan told Love Rugby League.

“I went to school at Woodfield and I had a couple of years playing at St Pats. That was my first taste of footy. Even though I was young they were still special moments in my life.”

Adrian, the head coach of the promotion-chasing Centurions, had tried to bring his son over to Northern England earlier this season. Lachlan was happy at the Roosters at the time, but decided to make the move in search of regular game-time as well as wanting to help take Leigh to Super League.

“I tried to get it done at the start of the season but there wasn’t much interest from his end being contracted with the Sydney Roosters in the NRL,” Adrian said.

“We worked hard talking to Lokie about the opportunity that existed for him at this club and potentially helping us get to the important game at the end of the year and hopefully looking forward to Super League.”

Lachlan Lam loving life at Leigh

Lachlan has quickly turned into a fan favourite on the terraces at the Leigh Sports Village. He says he is loving every minute of his time with the Leythers.

“I’ve been really lucky to land in a group of boys going really well and they’ve got a tight bond,” Lachlan said.

“For me coming in, I didn’t want to disrupt that too much. I got really lucky in this offer and with how things are going this year.

“I’ve been watching from afar this year and they’ve been really good. But what has surprised me is how close everyone is when they aren’t on the field.

“I’ve been fortunate and lucky enough to come to a team that’s going well with a good bunch of boys.”

The Centurions are favourites to win promotion to Super League this season. They currently sit five points clear of second-placed Featherstone, with the play-offs just around the corner.

“It is something we don’t talk about that often to be honest,” Adrian revealed. “We made a pact as a group not to put pressure on ourselves by talking about it.

“What we can control is the week-to-week process and the day to day process in training. For us, it is about where we can get better.

“I still think we’ve got our best performances of the year still in front of us and I think we can still develop as players and people over the next few weeks. It is important that we stick to ourselves and the bubble.”
