Lakers announce new sponsor

Doncaster Lakers have unveiled a new shirt sponsor for the 2007.

Earlier in the week the club announced that they would be returning to the traditional colours of Blue and Gold. Chairman John Wright said: "We have decided to revert back to tradition and go with the colours most Rugby League supporters recognise as Doncaster."

 The new shirt sponsor will be Doncaster College, who in turn will work in partnership with the club to help bring forward the potential youth in the area. The college rugby team has now been rebranded the Doncaster College Lakers.

Lakers CEO Dave King said: "Lakers Chief Executive Dave King explained: "The partnership will link in with our Community Development Programme and also see the College play a big part in the soon to be launched Lakers Scholarship scheme. There will also be an official Lakers merchandise shop based in their state of the art 'Hub' headquarters situated near the Doncaster Town Centre."

Acting Prinicipal at the college – Bill Webster -said: "Acting Principal Bill Webster said ‘We are delighted to be forging an extremely exciting partnership with the Doncaster Lakers and wish them every success with the new season and their ambitious plans for the future. We feel that by working in collaboration with the club, we will be able to create more unique major educational opportunities for the college and the Lakers as well as the local and wider community.”

 The Lakers will formally wear their new home shirts in their local derby clash against the Sheffield Eagles on 'The Day after Boxing Day' at their new home at the Lakeside Sports Complex.
