Kristian Woolf impressed by strong fitness levels of Saints players after return to training

St Helens coach Kristian Woolf is confident his side will be at a high level and ready to go ahead of the Super League restart on August 2.

Saints returned to training as a squad earlier this week ahead of the competition’s return next month. Woolf’s side play Catalans as part of Super League’s triple-header on August 2.

Woolf told Saints TV: “It’s all a little bit different obviously and we’ve got plenty of things that we need to be compliant with but at the same time it is really exciting to be back.

“To be back around the group and see the excitement within the group and how happy they all are to be back at training is really infectious so it has been great.

“The players have done a great job with how they have come back in condition and the strength and conditioning staff have done a great job in terms of what they have been able to do through the lockdown period.

“The players have come in really fit and they are ready to go and they are ready for us to step the intensity up and a big part of what we are going to do is re-introducing contact because no-one has had any ability to do that and then re-introducing how we want to play or what we want to do skill-wise.

“It’s going to be really quick. We’ve basically got two weeks preparation and then a week where we are scaling down a little bit and getting ready to play. I’m very confident we are going to be at a high level ready to go.”
