Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash wants to use the new Super League ‘marquee player’ rule to bring Sam Burgess back from rugby union in 2017.

Koukash believes that luring Burgess back to the 13-man code would be a huge coup, and he would love the former South Sydney Rabbitoh to be a Red Devil.

Sam Burgess is playing at the [rugby union] World Cup and I am absolutely sure he is going to be a star name,” Koukash told Premier Sports’ TV show ‘Rugby League Back Chat’.

“Just imagine if in 12 months time he is going back to Super League because Super League made it possible with the marquee signing.

“It would be a huge victory for rugby league. In 2017 we are very confident that we will have a marquee signing and top of that list will be Sam Burgess.”
