Koukash reacts angrily to Roman Abramovich comparisons

Salford City Reds owner Dr Marwan Koukash has reacted angrily after being called the Roman Abramovich of Super League.

Having sacked coach Phil Veivers just five games into the new season, he has received criticism for his bold leadership approach and many likened it to Chelsea’s Russian owner Abramovich.

Huddersfield Giants manager Paul Anderson said the decision to sack Veivers was “disgraceful” and “made by people with no history in the game.”

However Koukash has today hit back at his critics and told the M.E.N: “I am not at all like Roman Abramovich in any way. I am my own man and always do what I think is best.

“The culture of the whole club stinks right now and I have to change that. All departments need revamping. This is something I have to do and will do. The honeymoon period is definitely over, I want to see some progress because I will also be judged on my results.

“I learned to manage people when I came into horse racing and I know what I want to see happen at Salford. I am not prepared to wait six or seven years for us to be successful. We need to be strong and competitive from the start.

“I could see that the current team was heading nowhere and that changes needed making now, so I acted accordingly. There was little point waiting two more months seeing more damage being inflicted on our long-terms plans.”
