Newcastle members have voted in favour of businessman Nathan Tinkler’s takeover bid.

A vote on Tinkler’s proposed $100 million buyout of the Knights at an Extraordinary General Meeting received an overwhelming 75 per cent support.

Chairman Rob Tew made the announcement at around 8.30pm to an audience including members and media.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the ballot papers have been counted and it is a resounding successful vote,” Chairman Tew said.

“From the outset it’s been the board’s imperative to get the best deal for this club and this vote tonight is a historic vote in the history of this club.

“We continue to be a united club.

“This is an opportunity to go forward fully capitalised and with a level of financial security we have not previously enjoyed.”

The members voted 97 per cent in agreement on resolutions to both amend the constitution of the club and change the name of the club to Newcastle Knights Members Club Limited.
