Swinton Lions saw their good run of form come to an end last week with a 28-16 defeat at Oldham.

Coach John Duffy said: “On the day the better team won. Oldham are a great side and they deserved the victory. We’ve just got to dust ourselves down this week and finish our season on a high and hopefully go into the play-offs full of confidence.

“We’ve got to show South Wales the utmost respect. They’ve lost out narrowly a few times and had a good win against London, so we’ll go into it with the same attitude as we go into every game. We’re looking forward to a tough game.”

South Wales Scorpions are struggling with injuries and unavailability ahead of this game. Coach Mike Grady said: “We currently have 15 players for the game, I might try to just find an extra one and field 16 and see if we have same luck as Crusaders!

“Swinton are playing very well at the moment under John (Duffy) and it’s going to be a very tough ask at their place but I was very happy with the amount of commitment and enthusiasm last week from our youngsters.

“The score line flattered Newcastle and my lads had a go. We conceded five tries in the first 20 minutes but in the last 60 minutes we lost the game 24-16 and the boys did themselves proud.

“It’s our final game and the lads have been a credit to themselves and the club, I couldn’t have asked for any more.”
