Kingstone Press Championship One Preview: South Wales Scorpions v York City Knights

South Wales Scorpions coach Mike Grady is battling against a mounting injury list ahead of Saturday’s Kingstone Press Championship One clash with York City Knights.

Jordan Sheridan, Chris Leyhson, Neil Dallimore and Phil Carleton are all set to miss out, while Paul Emanuelli is rated only 50/50. However, Shaun Owens could return after a fractured thumb.

Grady said: “Anyone can beat anyone in this league, but you’ve got to make sure you’re on your game. York are beatable; they’re good, but they’re not superhuman.

“Maybe we need to get a bit tougher mentally against the top teams. The quality’s there, we just need to be more consistent.”

Knights coach Gary Thornton has Ben Reynolds back available, but Jack Aldous, Benn Hardcastle and Ryan Mallinder are all ruled out due to personal commitments.

Austin Bell is suspended and Jonny Presley (calf) is doubtful, but Kris Brining and Nathan Harper are both fit.

Thornton said: “We’ve got four consecutive long trips coming up, and it’s a mental challenge more than anything.

“South Wales had a fantastic win over London and played very well against Gloucestershire All Golds. We’ve got to throw everything into this week.”
