Kevin Sinfield takes new role with RL Cares

Former Leeds half-back Kevin Sinfield has returned to rugby league in a new role with RL Cares on the board of trustees.

He will combine his new role with his current position as defence coach for rugby union side Leicester Tigers.

Sinfield stressed he was keen to give back to the sport. He enjoyed a trophy-laden 18-year career with Leeds. He helped them to win seven Super League titles, three World Club Challenges and two Challenge Cups. Sinfield also won the Harry Sunderland Trophy twice, and the Lance Todd trophy once.

I always said I’d never leave the sport,” said Sinfield.

“It’s given me everything I’ve got and it’s really important for me to give something back.

“I understand the importance of player welfare and the work that Rugby League Cares does. It’s a wonderful organisation and I’m delighted to be joining.

“I’d like to thank Leicester Tigers; they’ve been incredibly supportive of this move and I can’t thank them enough.”

Tim Adams, chairman of RL Cares, said: “We are proud to have Kevin aboard because it demonstrates that he clearly believes in RL Cares and all that it does and because it brings him back into rugby league following his ‘transfer’ to Leicester Tigers.”

Sinfield fundraising passes £2 million

Recently, Sinfield completed a 101-mile run between Leicester and Leeds for the MND Association and the Rob Burrow centre. He did this in just 24 hours.

At the time of writing, he has raised over £2.1 million from the challenge, which has taken his total fundraising to just under £5 million.

In 2020, Sinfield ran seven marathons in seven days in his first challenge for Burrow and the MND Association. He also received an OBE for his efforts in the 2021 Birthday honours.
