Widnes stand-off Kevin Brown will make his debut for the club against Hull on Saturday after recovering from injury.

Brown, 29, has missed the first month of the new campaign after damaging his ankle in training but now coach Denis Betts has admitted he is fit and raring to go.

Betts said: “Kev is ready to go and he’ll be in the 19-man squad.

“He likes the pressure but he’s not played for six months and he’s only come back into the team environment in the last two weeks.

“I’m really wary that the expectations on him could go through the roof. Everybody is expecting so much from him and we’re trying to temper that a little bit.”

Brown was one of the Vikings’ big name recruits ahead of the new season along with Gareth Hock, who arrived from Wigan.

The former Huddersfield captain cited family reasons for the move, which saw him sign a four-year deal at the Stobart Stadium.
