Keighley v Coventry to go ahead as planned

Keighley Cougars have officially confirmed that their League One fixture against Coventry Bears will go ahead as scheduled at Cougar Park on Sunday, May 10, at 3pm.

The decision to play the game was taken after the family of the late Danny Jones visited Cougar Park to see the tributes left by rugby league fans to the player.

The main stand at Cougar Park is to be called ‘The Danny Jones Stand’ in the stand-off’s honour.

Keighley Cougars Chief Executive Gary Fawcett said: “Following conversations between Danny’s wife Liz and our coach Paul March, we have decided that the game will go ahead.

“It’s absolutely the right thing to do: whilst it’s not going to be easy for us, especially Danny’s team-mates, this is a chance for us to pay a special Rugby League tribute to a very special Rugby League player.

“The match also provides an opportunity to boost the fantastic fund-raising efforts that have taken place in the last 48 hours.

“Whilst no amount of money can make up for such a tragic loss, it’s important that we do what we can to provide financial security for Liz and their five-month old twins, Bobby and Phoebe.”
