Keighley Cougars have signed Oldham Roughyeds back row forward Chris Baines.

The 25-year-old second rower made 29 appearances for the Roughyeds last season scoring a total of 114 points.

It is an exciting time at the club with Chris being the fifth new player that has signed during the closed season. Head coach Barry Eaton has also recruited Tom Burton, Sam Crowther, Richard Jones and Craig Moss for the new season.

Barry Eaton said: ‘Chris had a really impressive season for Oldham scoring 12 tries and 33 goals. I think he will be a very important player for us in the Championship.’

Chris will also take on the role of Sport Development Officer at the club. He will be targeting North Yorkshire within the Aireville School Sports Partnership. His delivery will be primarily focussed on increasing participation throughout the partnership. Chris will look to develop links in to Craven and going as far as Colne. With increased participation he will aim to link in amateur clubs such as West Craven Warriors, Keighley Albion and Keighley Cougar Prowlers.
