Keighley snap up Hull KR youngster

Keighley Cougars have announced the signing of forward Anesu Mudoti from Hull KR on a two-year deal.

Mudoti signed for the club ahead of the 2020 season from Bradford Bulls, but did not end up making a first team appearance for the club. He was one of five players that switched Odsal for Craven Park.

He had suffered with injuries during his stay in East Yorkshire. A long-term leg injury, coupled with the reserve competition getting cancelled, meant Mudoti’s 2020 season was over before it started.

The 20-year-old spent time out on loan at Doncaster in 2021, making 10 appearances for the club. He will now return to League One on a permanent basis.

Reacting to the move, Mudoti said: “It was a no-brainer really to sign with Keighley.

“I’m really excited about the plans the club has for the next couple of years and I want to be part of that. I’m excited to see what Rhys is like as a coach this year and see where he is going to take us as a team.

“And hopefully that will be promotion to the Championship.”

Keighley continue recruitment drive

Mudoti is the second young Super League player to sign for the club in the last two days.

Warrington outside back Nathan Roebuck signed for the club on Thursday, also on a two-year deal. His teammate in the Warrington academy Myles Tate has also joined. Both followed new Director of Rugby Andrew Henderson to the club.

Other signings include Lewis Young from Newcastle, Harvey Spence from Featherstone and Chris Cullimore from Midlands Hurricanes.

The Cougars will be hoping to build on last season’s efforts. They finished fourth at the end of the regular season, but were dealt a heart-breaking late defeat to Doncaster in the semi-finals.
