Kavanagh joins Scotland squad

Widnes prop Ben Kavanagh has been added to Scotland‘s provisional squad for the World Cup.

Kavanagh, 25, was born in Wigan, but qualifies for Scotland through his Glaswegian grandmother.

He has been with the Vikings since 2008, making more than 100 league appearances for the club, and was the first player to sign a Super League contract ahead of their return to the top flight in 2012.

Injury ruled him out for most of that campaign, and denied him a probable Scotland debut.

He joins Championship All Star Mitchell Stringer, Leigh’s new signing Sam Barlow and Luke Douglas of Gold Coast Titans as the props in coach Steve McCormack’s pool.
