The moment it hit home that Justin Holbrook was leaving St Helens was when they were on the team bus going to Old Trafford.

The Saints beat Salford 23-6 in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford last Saturday.

Holbrook has now left his role as St Helens coach to take up a head coaching gig at Gold Coast Titans in the NRL.

He said: “I actually got really emotional on the bus driving into Old Trafford.

“I’m glad nobody was sitting next to me because it was quite embarrassing! I think it hit me then that it was my last game but it hit me more then than now. I now feel much better knowing that the job is done.

“If we didn’t win the game then it would have been a hard feeling.

“There’s never an easy time to leave when you love the area but I’m really happy for everyone. I’m happy and proud that we got the job done.”
