Justin Holbrook: Gold Coast players in awkward situation over flu jab

Drew Darbyshire

Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook feels two of his players have been put in awkward positions by the NRL after they refused to have flu vaccinations.

Titans players Bryce Cartwright and Brian Kelly have been stood down from official duties until further notice after they declined to have flu jabs ahead of the May 28 restart.

Holbrook said: “I have spoken to them to make sure we are complying as a club and he (Bryce) informed me that he has signed the waiver and everything is okay.

“It is quite funny with Bryce, he is a shy and quiet guy so he’s been put in an awkward situation and as a club, we have either got to make sure we get the flu shot or sign the waiver and be compliant as a club for the government and our game.

“We’ve done that and it can hopefully be put to bed now.

“I’m not sure it will be but as a club we are in a good spot now knowing that one or two of those things have happened for every player and staff which is the main thing.”
