Jordan Thompson and Ben Hellewell commit to Leigh

Leigh have announced the re-signings of Jordan Thompson and Ben Hellewell on one-year deals.

Thompson returned to Leigh in June 2019 from Hull FC, while Hellewell joined the club from London Broncos ahead of the 2020 season. The deals keep them both at the club until the end of 2021.

Thompson said: “Obviously it’s been an awful year but I was buzzing to be back at Leigh Centurions for 2020. I really enjoyed my time here in 2018 and love pulling on that Leigh shirt.

“Everyone’s been on a bit of a downer because the season finished early but now it’s all about being positive and trying to get a big pre-season under our belts ready for next year. We will have a lot of the squad from 2020 starting 2021 which means there won’t be a need for us to bond and with new players coming in, I’m sure we will gel quickly.

“This is a really good bunch of lads who all know each other and we’re looking to start where we left off after winning our opening Championship games in 2020.”

Hellewell said: “I didn’t have the best of times at London in 2019 so I jumped at the opportunity to join Leigh Centurions. I knew a few of the players and the head coach John Duffy so it was an easy decision for me.

“Since coming to Leigh I’ve been playing in the forwards and the move is something I’ve really enjoyed. I’m seeing more of the ball and the defensive side of my game has really improved too.

“With so many of the 2020 squad re-signing, there is a good continuity about things and we showed at the start of the season that we know how to win matches. Hopefully that will set us up well for pre-season and I’m really looking forward to getting back into training with all the lads.”
