Castleford Tigers have confirmed the signing of Jordan Tansey from York City Knights.

He will join the Tigers in time for the 2013 season, and is Ian Millward’s fifth signing for next season.

The former Hull FC, Leeds, Crusaders and Sydney Roosters back will want to rebuild his career with the Tigers after a spell in the Championships.

Coach Ian Millward also said he was aware of Tansey’s off field problems, and is confident the 25-year old has overcome the problems of his past.

Millward said: “He lost consistency in his life away from the game and went back to York to do the hard yards and get back on track. We’re very impressed by his enthusiasm and drive to fulfil his potential.

“We appreciate and respect the guidance he has had from the RFL with various life courses and support. They’ve given high recommendations that he’s ready to re-launch his career and we are providing Jordan an opportunity.

“We’ve signed him next year on his outstanding utility value. He has an impressive C.V. with Leeds, being recruited for the NRL by Sydney Roosters and at Hull FC. At the age of 25 he has the talent to be a great utility asset to us.”

Tansey joins Michael Shenton, Jamie Ellis, Jake Webster and Lee Gilmour who have all signed contracts for 2013. Ellis will make his Tigers debut on Sunday against Huddersfield, following Hull FC’s decision to release him from his contract.
