Widnes captain Jon Clarke has signed a one-year contract extension at the Stobart Stadium.

Clarke, 34, has been in fine form this season, and is now committed until the end of 2014.

He said: “I’m delighted to extend my contract for another 12 months and equally as pleased that my body is allowing me to prolong my career and carry on playing with the Vikings.

“Hopefully we can kick-on again for the remainder of this season and improve even further next year.”

Clarke joined the Vikings on their return to Super League having spent 10 years at local rivals Warrington.

The former Great Britain international has played in all but one of the 18 seasons of Super League, having started his career with Wigan in 1997.

Vikings head coach Denis Betts said: “Jon has been our best player by far all season and he is leading the team around really well and offers us so much on the field.

“He’s been inspirational for us this year and his form has probably been some of the best he has displayed since his time spent as part of the England set-up. He’s enjoying his rugby, I’m enjoying having him here, the lads think a lot about him, and it’s great to have him around the place.”
