Joining Leeds was not a big call for Garbutt

New Leeds prop Mitch Garbutt has revealed that making the decision to join the Rhinos was more straightforward for him than many might think.

The 26-year-old arrived in the UK over the weekend from Australia, where he had been playing for NRL outfit Brisbane Broncos.

Salary cap issues at the Broncos and the current form of their front row meant that Garbutt, who had been on the Rhinos’ radar as a potential 2016 recruit, could join Leeds right away.

The decision did not require much pondering for Garbutt.

“In the end, it probably wasn’t a big call,” the prop told reporters.

“I have come with my family, and they’re all excited to come.

“To come to a club like Leeds, and to come into a winning culture, where you know everyone is striving for success.

“As a footballer you just want success in what you do.

“So it wasn’t as big a call as most people think, it’s just a very exciting time for me and my family to be here.”
