Young half Jordan Johnstone has signed a new two-year deal with the Widnes Vikings.

Johnstone only joined the Super League club from the Cumbria Storm Under 19 Regional Academy in October. The 19-year old had previously played some games in the Championship for Whitehaven.

Johnstone came through the ranks at amateur club Kells and made his Super League debut against Catalans Dragons in Round nine.

“These past couple of weeks have been crazy and have gone so fast,” he said.

“From getting the call from Brett Hodgson to say that I am debuting in Catalans, to signing a senior contract with the Club, it’s just really crazy how fast it has all happened.

“I am made up and can not wait to be a part of what is to come with the Vikings over the coming seasons.”

Widnes coach Denis Betts said Johnstone has improved game on game.

“He found his level playing in his own age group and dominated it,” he said.

“He is a physical, strong young player who we believe has a promising professional career and Super League future. I look forward to seeing him grow and working with him over the coming years.”
