Joel Tomkins looking forward to brotherly battle

Joel Tomkins has said he is looking forward to coming up against his brother Logan as Wigan face Salford Red Devils on Friday night.

Despite all three of the Tomkins brothers, Joel, Sam and Logan, coming through the Wigan academy system, Friday’s game will be the first time the trio have share the field for the first time in a competitive fixture.

The brothers had played in a pre-season game for Wigan at Warrington, with the hope they would take to the field more often as a trio in Super League, however circumstances have meant this never happened.

With Logan now playing for Salford Red Devils nowadays after a move from Wigan, the eldest brother Joel has said he will find it weird at first to be playing against his youngest brother.

“That friendly at Warrington was the only time we’ve been in the same game, so it should be interesting,” Joel Tomkins told the club’s official website.

“I’ll be in the middle, he (Logan) will be, too. I played him when he was on loan there, I ran at him at one point. It’s a bit weird, actually, because you don’t really want to run at each other but it’s part of the game!”

Joel Tomkins is better placed than most in the Wigan team to comment on the Red Devils, with him watching a few of their games because of his brother’s ties to the club this season.

“I’ve taken more of an interest in them with Logan being there, and they’re a good side, especially in attack,” he said.

“They have some nice structures, they put on some good plays and they have good galves in Dobson and Lui.”
