Joe Greenwood given the green light to look at Super League return

Former St Helens back-rower Joe Greenwood has been given the green light to look at options elsewhere by his NRL club Gold Coast Titans.

Greenwood, 25, moved Down Under at the start of last season in a swap deal with Zeb Taia.

He played 22 games in the NRL in 2017 but hasn’t featured at all this season, and is now playing off the bench for the Titans’ feeder team, Burleigh Bears.

Titans head of football told the official NRL website: “We have had a couple of English clubs show interest and have said to Joe that if there was a good opportunity he wanted to pursue, we would be happy to let him go.

“He has aspirations of playing for England but Garth (Brennan) has been honest with him and he’s behind the eight-ball currently here.”

Greenwood has been edged out of the line-up by Will Matthews, who had agreed a deal to join Widnes for 2018 before changing his mind over the winter.

The likes of Hull KR, Leeds and Toronto are already being linked with Greenwood’s signature.
