Jason Robinson OBE announced as international ambassador for rugby league world cup 2021

Rugby League World Cup 2021 has announced Jason Robinson OBE as an international ambassador. 

Robinson is widely regarded as one of the greatest cross-code players of all time, who had a glittering career which saw him represent England in both codes of the game, win the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup scoring a try in the final, as well playing in the 1995 final again Australia. In addition, he made over 300 appearances for Wigan Warriors winning the Challenge Cup and Super League Grand Final along the way. 

Recently he joined the Jamaican Rugby League set up as joint operations manager, to help raise the profile of the sport and the team, after the Reggae Warriors secured their place at RLWC2021. 

Robinson has been brought onboard to help inspire the next generation of rugby league players and help event organisers reach their objectives of increasing the visibility and profile of the sport, as well as ensuring RLWC2021 leaves a positive legacy. 

Robinson joins an already strong roster of tournament ambassadors; Kevin Sinfield represents the men’s game, Leeds Rhinos half-back Luke Gale is an ambassador for the CreatedBY legacy programme, St Helens and England star, Jodie Cunningham, is the ambassador for the women’s game and wheelchair rugby league is being promoted by Leeds Rhinos and England player, James Simpson. 

Jason commented on the partnership: “I’m honoured to be asked to be an international ambassador for Rugby League World Cup 2021, it’s a sport that I owe a great deal of gratitude towards so it’s great to be able to give back in this way. I hope we can inspire the next generation of rugby league players and am looking forward to working with the whole team to see what we can achieve.”

“He obviously has incredible pedigree in the sport and huge global appeal. His exploits on the field have inspired generations of rugby players from both codes, across the world.
