Whitehaven have given experienced centre Jason Mossop a one-year contract extension.

The 34-year-old was already contracted with the Championship club until he end of 2020 – but he has now signed extended terms that will see him remain at the Recreation Ground until the end of the 2021 campaign.

Whitehaven coach Gary Charlton said: “Jason is one of the senior players in the squad. He’s very experienced and is great to have in the team, on and off the field.

“His experience is a great help in the dressing room with the younger members of the squad and he is a player who always gives 100%. He trains hard and is great to have around.”

Mossop added: “I feel good in myself, I feel fit and personally, if it got to a point where I couldn’t give enough to the team then I’d give it up there and then.

“I’m enjoying my rugby which makes it a lot easier and I’m enjoying my training. Hopefully we’ll have a good two years.”
