Jansin Turgut’s mum Carole Butler said proceedings have begun to bring her son home.

The Turkey captain suffered serious injuries after falling from the third floor of a car park at Ibiza airport in May.

Turgut is still in an intensive care unit in Ibiza and underwent facial surgery on Monday.

His mum, Carole, tweeted: “Yesterday has to be the longest day in our lives.

“Jansin underwent 12 hours of surgery to reconstruct his jaw, cheek bones, nose and sockets.

“The surgeon saw us right after the operation to tell us it all went to plan they did everything they wanted to do and they believe it was successful. She even apologised for being tired, bless her, I am not surprised. We cannot thank her enough for what she has done.

“Jansin will need further surgery on his nose but he can have that done in England. He was scheduled for surgery on his hand today but I kind of think (hope) they put it off due to the length of time he was under yesterday – he will be exhausted.”

Turgut’s mother added: “The surgeon did say that providing he has no bleeding and no infection, they may put him in a normal ward in a few days which for me, means they will remove the ventilator – everything crossed.

“Things are moving now to get him home and the ground ambulances are in place.

“The latest report from hospital to the flight medic team will take place today, which will be passed to HRI. It’s getting closer to getting my boy home.

“We could not this happen so quickly without all your help and support, thank you to everyone.”
