James Roby picks out star performer for St Helens in pre-season

James Roby has been impressed with all the St Helens players in pre-season, but one player has stood out for him in particular.

Roby, who is about to complete his 18th pre-season as a professional, has picked out Jonny Lomax as a star performer in the club’s pre-season this year.

Lomax has made almost 250 appearances for Saints since making his debut in 2009 and has won 13 caps for Great Britain and England.

Roby said: “We’ve had a lot of great lads in pre-season but I’d probably single out Jonny Lomax in particular for the way he trains.

“He does some special things day in, day out on the training field and obviously he is a fantastic player and he is a fantastic leader for us as well. I think he has really developed in that sense and his rugby knowledge is second to none.

“Jonny is one of them who is very consistent, very professional in the way he goes about his business and he has been a great player for many years and he shows it day in, day out in training as well.”
