Widnes full-back Jack Owens has received a two-match ban for using foul and abusive language towards a touch judge.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty and accepted the grading of a Grade D charge of questioning the integrity of a match official.

He was facing up to a ban of five games and the tribunal found the grading at Grade D was correct and appropriate.

However, the tribunal went outside the range for grade, taking into account the player’s excellent previous record, his mitigation and the considerable remorse shown.

Owens has been handed a two-match suspension and a £250 fine. He will miss the Vikings’ upcoming matches against Leigh and York.
