Castleford Tigers younger Kieran Hudson has suffered a major blow during pre-season training with the Super League side.

The 22-year-old forward has suffered an Achilles injury.

Hudson joined the side from Whitehaven ahead of the 2022 campaign. He returned to the Championship side on loan for the duration of that season.

Hudson had been training with Lee Radford’s first-team this year but is now facing a lengthy period on the sidelines.

“It’s obviously heartbreaking for him because he started pre-season so well, so picking up this injury is a tough one to take for him,” head coach Radford said.

“We’ll take care of him and try to help him get back to full fitness so he can reach the levels we know he is capable of.”

As a youngster, Hudson was with Sunderland’s goalkeeping team before joining the sport of rugby league. The youngster joined Whitehaven in October 2021, as part of a double signing alongside Liam McAvoy.

He started his rugby league career on the wing before transitioning into the front-row.

Hudson is currently in the last year of his two-year deal with Castleford Tigers.

Castleford Tigers squad numbers

The Super League outfit are one of two teams yet to confirm their squad numbers ahead of the 2023 campaign alongside Catalans.

Radford confirmed to Love Rugby League that those decisions have been made and an announcement is expected this week.

“Internally we’ve done that,” Radford said on squad numbers.

“There’s a sponsors evening on Friday, so I’m pretty sure that would be made public on the evening. We got them nailed down last week.

“It’s a fair old sized squad as well.”
