Leigh coach addresses Isaac Liu exit rumours with honest admission on Hull FC links

Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam declined to confirm Isaac Liu will leave the club for Hull FC at the end of the season, but hinted that will be the case.

The Leopards produced one of the performances of the Super League season so far on Thursday night to down leaders Leeds Rhinos 20-16, becoming the first side to beat the Rhinos at Headingley in 2026.

That victory came just over 24 hours after LoveRugbyLeague revealed the news that forward Liu – who has scored three tries in 57 appearances across all competitions for the club – is set to join fellow Super League outfit Hull at the end of the year.

Liu is off-contract, and Leigh had been in talks around an extension to his stay at the Leopards’ Den for a number of months, but he has instead opted to move onto pastures new.

Former Samoa and New Zealand international Liu, who turned 35 in April, has spent two seasons with the Leopards after arriving ahead of the 2025 campaign from NRL outfit Gold Coast Titans.

Between his stints with Sydney Roosters and the Titans, the veteran clocked up over 270 NRL appearances, meaning he now has over 300 career appearances on his CV at first-grade level.

A Grand Final winner in 2019 as the Roosters got the better of Melbourne Storm, Auckland-born Liu has impressed both at loose forward and in the front-row during his time with Leigh.

Speaking after the Leopards’ win at Headingley, head coach Lam was – unsurprisingly – asked about the veteran’s future.

He said: “The only thing I want to say as a club is that I’m not allowed to comment on that.

“All I know is that he’s been amazing for us. I love the guy incredibly and I’m looking forward to the next four weeks with him.

“Hopefully take us into the finals and see what’s next.”
