Ireland delighted with student progress

Ireland RL are pleaed with the way that the Student Four Nations turned out, after they hosted the tournament last week in Bray.

Ireland finished third in the competition, behind England and Wales, but ahead of Scotland, who they beat in the tournament’s final game.

The scoreline in that concluding fixture was 20-8, and it was celebrated in some style by the Irish Students (see video).

“I am delighted to see the progress being made by our Students structure,” said RL Ireland director Richard Egan.

“We are now seeing annual open trials in each province and the team has performed excellently this week.

“Our guys have been playing for two years and we are competitive against players who grow up playing the game.

“This is testament to the quality of our players and the coaching they now receive. These players are the future of our game and the event itself in Bray was an example of the positive strides being made.

“McGettigan’s have given us great support and we look forward to many years to come and seeing these players develop further.”
