Inglis to make Rabbitohs bow

Greg Inglis will make his much-anticipated South Sydney debut next week, when the Rabbitohs take on rivals the Sydney Roosters in the NRL‘s opening round.

Inglis has been named in his favoured centre position alongside rookie Dylan Farrell for the clash on Friday March 11.

He will appear in a side featuring star forwards Sam Burgess and Dave Taylor as well as hooker Isaac Luke, a Four Nations victor with New Zealand in the autumn.

Souths stalwart Nathan Merritt takes his place on the wing, while veteran full-back Rhys Wesser fills the number one jersey.

Roy Asotasi will skipper the side.

It marks an end to an off-season of turmoil for the Queensland and Australia star Inglis, who endured a protracted investigation into his contract, before he could join the club.

The move only came about after Inglis failed to reach a deal with Brisbane, with whom he had reportedly agreed verbal terms.

Souths and owner Russell Crowe moved quickly to sign the former Melbourne Storm player, but the deal was delayed by the NRL‘s salary cap auditors.

The contract was finally approved on Christmas Eve.
