Ian Watson admits that Huddersfield’s attitude was “all wrong” during Wakefield loss

Huddersfield boss Ian Watson has criticised the performance of his side after a disappointing trip to Wakefield ended in a hefty 38-12 defeat

Confidence was high for the Giants heading into the game, but they found themselves 30-0 behind at the half-time break and only managed to trouble the scoreboard when the game was already well beyond them.

Defeat at the Mobile Rocket Stadium leaves Huddersfield ninth in the division with three wins from their opening eight Super League outings.

“We didn’t back ourselves defensively,” Watson said following the game. “It was poor from the start. We started building some pressure and gave the momentum back to them due to weak defence, which is nowhere near as good as it’s been. It was embarrassing to be fair.

“We had this conversation after the Hull KR defeat and we don’t want to be having this conversation again.”

Watson hopes to have Gaskell back for his team’s next match against Wigan in a fortnight’s time but is resigning to being without second rower Josh Jones, who hobbled off 24 minutes into the game.

He added: “Hopefully he won’t be out too long but his foot is sore and really swollen.”
