Ian Kirke signs for Wakefield

Wakefield Wildcats have confirmed that Ian Kirke will be part of their squad in 2015, having signed a one-year deal.

The giant prop forward has won one Challenge Cup final winner’s medal and five Grand Final winner’s rings ina lengthy career with Leeds Rhinos.

Trinity coach James Webster is pleased to have added more size and weight to his forward pack for next year.

“Ian will add size and experience to our pack and will make us a better team,” he said.

“His professionalism will rub off on the youngsters and improve their performances.

“Our forward pack has genuine competition for places and pre-season has reflected that so far. I’m delighted to welcome him to the team.”

The 32-year-old, Hornsea-born prop is delighted to have made the move to the Wildcats, where he can link up with some former Rhinos team-mates.

“I’m really looking forward to this new chapter of my career at Wakefield,” he said.

“I’d like to thank Leeds for a very enjoyable 9 years there. This is a great challenge for me and one that I’m really excited about, especially linking up with my old team mates Paul McShane, Ali Lauitiiti and Nick Scruton.”
