Danny McGuire says he almost celebrated with a Mourinho-like touchline sprint after Hull KR’s dramatic win over Warrington.

Despite losing three players to injury, Rovers came from behind on Friday night to claim a 30-22 victory over Daryl Powell’s side.

McGuire’s men were 22-12 down with 15 minutes to go, with tries from Ethan Ryan, Matt Parcell and Sam Royle completing the comeback.

The victory also sees the side into the play-offs, overtaking rivals Hull FC in the sixth spot.

Danny McGuire: ‘“I reckon that’s the gutsiest win I’ve ever been a part of’

“I got a bit excited and carried away,” McGuire said following the triumph.

“I was celebrating and nearly did a Mourinho and ran down the touchline. But I’d have probably got a fine for that!

“I reckon that’s the gutsiest win I’ve ever been a part of, ever.

“Things that went wrong in that game, I can’t begin to tell you. It all started in the warm-up. Hally [Ryan Hall] was struggling in the warm-up. He put his hand up and just battled through it. I think our back-row position is cursed. Jimmy Keinhorst came off. I said to them in the changing rooms, the commitment and their attitude to not give in and just keep turning up for each other.

“George King did a 75 minutes stint. I just kept asking him to give me two more of the best sets of his life and he just kept going.

“I’m really proud of each and every one of them. I made sure all the staff and all the players were in the changing rooms together. It’s a group effort. When you get performances like that and situations like that, everybody needs to enjoy it.”
