Hunte unclear on Salford future

Alan Hunte doesn’t know if he’ll still be in charge at Salford for their Easter weekend games against Huddersfield and Bradford.

The City Reds are on the hunt for a new permanent head coach, and despite being considered for the role long-term, Hunte is likely to miss out to a more experienced candidate.

Former Great Britain coach Brian Noble watched Friday’s defeat to St Helens with owner Dr Marwan Koukash, fuelling speculation he will take over at the Salford City Stadium.

Hunte told the BBC: “The decision is out of my hands.

“When I stepped in, they said that I was in the running, so I guess I’m on interview day in and day out. But I’m not worrying about it.

“Myself and ‘Longy’ (Sean Long) will be preparing, as we always do, for the next game and that’s all we can do.”

Hunte has led Salford to a draw at Wakefield and defeats against Warrington and St Helens in his three games in charge.
