Salford’s caretaker coach Alan Hunte has backed the appointment of Brian Noble as his permanent successor.

Hunte has stepped in for the past seven games following the sacking of Phil Veivers, and Saturday’s 24-18 defeat to Hull was his last in the hotseat.

Hunte told the club’s official website: “I’ve known Brian was a strong contender from day one and my role has not changed.

“Brian is a great choice and his pedigree speaks for itself.

“He has coached two top Super League clubs and took Crusaders further than anyone imagined.

“He’s a good bloke too and we are all looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I’m looking forward to working with a world class coach.”

Noble was revealed as Salford’s new head coach ahead of Saturday’s game.

He has previously coached Bradford, Wigan and Crusaders in Super League.
