Hunslet sign Luke Menzies

Hunslet have signed much-travelled young front-rower Luke Menzies from Batley until the end of the season.

Batley-born Menzies, 23, spent time in the academy set-up at both Salford and Bradford, before moving to his hometown club. He was snapped up by Hull KR in 2007, and has also played for Dewsbury and Oldham.

Director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “Luke is a quality addition to the squad and he’s certainly in great shape, he wasn’t getting the game time he needed at Batley and were grateful to the Bulldogs for allowing his release.

“He will add some punch to the forwards and at 23 years of age has a number of Championship games under his belt and without doubt his best years are in front of him, he realises that at this stage in his career he needs regular football and he will come into contention to make his debut in Sundays home fixture against Swinton Lions.”

Menzies made just one Super League appearance during his time with Hull KR, coming off the bench in a 20-4 victory over Castleford in March, 2008.
