Hunslet sign former Leeds junior

Hunslet have signed former Leeds junior George Clarke from Championship 1 rivals South Wales Scorpions.

Clarke, 20, spent six years with the Rhinos before moving to Australia in 2012.

He returned to the UK with amateur sides Queens and East Leeds, before making seven appearances for the Scorpions in the second half of the 2013 season.

Director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “George trained pre season last year with us but we felt he wasn’t quite ready for Championship rugby, however he proved his credentials in Championship 1 with the Scorpions and the aggressive nature of that competition suited his game.

“Our Assistant coach Jonny Wainhouse knows him well and he’s a Leeds kid to boot so it’s a good fit for both parties. George doesn’t take a backward step and he’s one of a handful of locally based youngsters looking to prove a point and make a name for themselves in 2014.”
