Hunslet put strategies in place while unable to train

Drew Darbyshire

Hunslet have given their players individual training plans to abide by while they are unable to train as a group.

The League 1 season has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak that has swept the nation.

Hunslet coach Gary Thornton said: “We’ve set the players programmes, which hasn’t been straightforward as gyms are closed and not everyone has equipment in their homes.

“So we’re reliant on them adhering to those programmes and generally keeping fit as it’s vital that we are in good shape when the season resumes.

“I’m confident that our players can be trusted to remain as fit as they can be so that we will be on the front foot when the Rugby Football League gives the nod for fixtures to start anew.

“They are linking up in a WhatsApp group to support each other. And our coaching staff – Gary Barnett, Mark Cass and me – are in touch with a few senior players to oversee everything.”
