Hull KR winger Ethan Ryan has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken scaphoid.

Ryan, 24, suffered the hand injury in the 48-18 Challenge Cup defeat to Leeds at the weekend.

Coach Tony Smith said: “He’ll most likely need an operation so, whereas originally we thought he would be out for six weeks, it will probably be more so that will be Ethan’s season done.

“It’s a real blow for a young guy who made his way into the first grade team and was holding his own.”

Former Hull FC winger Nick Rawsthorne is in line to replace Ryan, and will make his first Super League appearance for the club against the Rhinos on Thursday.

Full-back Will Dagger is also set for up to a month on the sidelines with a knee injury, while the club is awaiting scans on Matty Storton’s injured hand.
