Hull KR sign Greenwood from Wigan

Hull KR have brought in forward reinforcements in the shape of Wigan prop James Greenwood, who has joined the Robins on loan for the rest of the season.

Dane Tilse, Adam Walker and Graeme Horne have all been ruled out for between four and six weeks with a variety of injuries, reducing Robins coach Chris Chester’s options in the forward pack.

Greenwood, 23, goes straight into Chester’s 19-man squad for the trip to Leeds this week. He has also played for Salford on loan earlier this season.

“James has come through a very good system at Wigan and he’s highly rated within the club and the game,” Chester told his club’s official website.

“He’s a tough young kid who will bring a real physical presence out on the field and I’m sure he’ll make a big difference for us for the rest of the season.

“We’re delighted to have him on board and I can’t thank Wigan enough for allowing us to borrow his services.”

Rovers CEO Mike Smith thanked Wigan for their cooperation in making the deal happen.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank the Wigan coaching staff and directors for their support in allowing us to bring James on loan to the club for the rest of the season,” he said.

“I’m sure it will be a deal that benefits all parties and once again it goes to show the fantastic relationship we have with the Warriors and long may that continue.”
