Hull KR set targets for Qualifiers

Tim Sheens says Hull KR have already started preparing for the Qualifiers at the end of the season.

The Robins return to Championship action against Swinton on Sunday having given Salford a run for their money in the Challenge Cup last weekend.

Sheens has now turned his attention to eking out some extra improvements from the Championship leaders ahead of a push for promotion further down the line.

“That cup competition is done and dusted now and it’s time to move on from that – we need to get grounded again and carry forward what we’ve been working on here,” he told the club’s official website.

“The players have trained hard this week and again we’ve been working on some of our combinations.

“It’s a case of ongoing hard work – that’s the theme. The S & C guys are really working hard to get an extra one percent out of everybody before the Qualifiers and targets have been set.

“We want to be even fitter and stronger than we are now and tactically we need to be very good at what we do so that when we get into a game against those four Super League clubs, we’re in a position to be able to work harder and play a style of football that allows us to do that.

“It’s alright to say throw the ball around, but it doesn’t always work against a Super League side and that’s what we’re preparing for.

“However, it’s in my DNA and that of Hull KR as a club that you need to play some football. We won’t just stick it up the jumper, so it’s a case of achieving a balance of how we play.

“We know what we need to do each week in the Championship to build towards that and we are very vocal as a group about preparing well for each match and giving the opposition the credit they deserve.

“We’ve got Swinton this week and they’re a much different team from the last time we played them. They’ve been going really well, they’ve beaten Toulouse in the league, they’ve beaten Huddersfield in the Challenge Cup and they put up a good fight against Wigan.

“They’re attacking very well at the moment – they’ve got a smart side and we’re going to be tested defensively. We had to work very hard to get in front of them last time and the scoreline didn’t really reflect that in the end, so we’re expecting a tough match.”
