Hull KR coach Tony Smith is set to hand a debut to youngster Will Tate against Leeds on Thursday.

Tate has recently been training with the Robins first-team to gain experience and speed up his development process.

The 18-year-old can play full-back, wing or centre and is expected to make his debut on Thursday after Ethan Ryan and Will Dagger sustained injuries in their Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat to Leeds last Friday.

Hull KR coach Tony Smith said: “There will be one or two boys getting their first run-outs in six months.

“Regardless of what happened last week, there are some young men here who deserve a chance. We want to give them an opportunity and see what they can do.

“Will is a good young man who is very well developed physically and mentally he’s terrific. I’m pretty sure he’ll get a game this week.”

Ryan has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken scaphold, while Dagger will be out for three to four weeks with a knee injury.

Former Hull FC winger Nick Rawsthorne is expected to make his first Super League appearance for Hull KR against Leeds on Thursday.
