Hull KR coach Tony Smith set to hand out a debut this week

Hull KR coach Tony Smith is set to hand a debut to youngster Will Tate against Leeds on Thursday.

Tate has recently been training with the Robins first-team to gain experience and speed up his development process.

The 18-year-old can play full-back, wing or centre and is expected to make his debut on Thursday after Ethan Ryan and Will Dagger sustained injuries in their Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat to Leeds last Friday.

Hull KR coach Tony Smith said: “There will be one or two boys getting their first run-outs in six months.

“Regardless of what happened last week, there are some young men here who deserve a chance. We want to give them an opportunity and see what they can do.

“Will is a good young man who is very well developed physically and mentally he’s terrific. I’m pretty sure he’ll get a game this week.”

Ryan has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken scaphold, while Dagger will be out for three to four weeks with a knee injury.

Former Hull FC winger Nick Rawsthorne is expected to make his first Super League appearance for Hull KR against Leeds on Thursday.

  1. Owen Harrison looks like one of the fringe players getting a chance this week you would think he has to grab this opportunity with both hands as I have watched him when he’s had other chances and he just seems to go through the motions doesn’t break a tackle and seems to be hands on hips after ten minutes gasping for air ,
Not good for a young man , maybe a fitness thing.
    Just my opinion.
