Sam Wood of Hull KR celebrates his try with Mikey Lewis

Hull KR Head Coach Tony Smith has confirmed Sam Wood will be out “for weeks, rather than months” with a dislocated patella.

Wood was taken off during the Robins’ defeat to Leeds last week. There was fears initially that he had picked up an ACL injury.

He told the pre-match conference on Tuesday that he was having a scan, but early an early prognosis was that it was not as bad as first feared.

Now Smith has confirmed the news, and said it was great news.

He told the club’s YouTube channel: “We were fearful of an ACL, but fortunately it’s not, it’s a dislocation of the patella.

“That’s not nearly as bad. That’s a matter of weeks rather than months.

“It’s great news for Sammy, and great news for his teammates. Hopefully we will have him back in action soon.”

Hull KR boss confirms Lachlan Coote out of semi-final

At Tuesday’s conference, Smith confirmed Scotland international Lachlan Coote would not be fit for Saturday’s semi-final against Huddersfield.

Coote went off for a Head Injury Assessment during the match against Leeds, but failed. As a result of the 11-day return to play protocol, he will be unavailable.

Smith added: “He won’t be available.

“I haven’t selected a team and I’m not going to go through everybody but he failed his test.

“He’s fine now, he’s trained with us today but they are the rules and for the protection of our players so I’m all for it but it makes him unavailable for the game.”

Hull KR take on Huddersfield in the final game of the Challenge Cup triple-header at Leeds United’s Elland Road on Saturday, 5pm kick-off.
