Hull KR call up Wardill and Moran

Hull KR have called up City of Hull Academy pair Joe Wardill and Kieran Moran to train alongside the club’s first-team.

Centre Wardill and prop Moran are tied to the Robins as part of their involvement in the new academy at Bishop Burton College where they are under the tutelage of head coach and former Rovers skipper James Webster.

Powerful front-rower Moran and England Academy international Wardill both played a starring role in the under-19s’ draw against Wigan Warriors at the weekend, with Moran playing big minutes through the middle and Wardill heavily involved in setting up a hat-trick for wingman Will Oakes.

“We’ve had good reports on how Joe and Kieran are developing with the academy and they’ve earned this opportunity through their performances on the field and in training,” Hull KR’s Head of Rugby Jamie Peacock said.

“They won’t be added to the first team squad full-time at this stage, but this is a chance for them to integrate into our systems and structures and familiarise themselves with life as a professional rugby league player.

“It’s the next step in their development process and they’ll be training with the first team squad alongside their current commitments to the academy and their education.

“They took part in training with the squad last week and enjoyed the experience so we’re looking forward to helping them progress even further.”
