Hull KR and Widnes link-up with discount ticket deal

Hull KR and Widnes have unveiled a new initiative that will offer discounts to season ticket holders travelling to matches between the two clubs.

Season ticket holders will be eligible to receive the discounted rate when purchasing tickets in advance of their team’s away fixture – with Hull KR travelling to Widnes on Sunday March 22nd and the return game at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Sunday June 14th.

If the ticketing initiative proves to be successful, the two clubs say they will approach other Super League clubs with a view to expanding the concept from 2016.

Hull KR’s marketing manager Craig Franklin said: “The rugby league community prides itself on offering value for money to supporters and we as a club are always looking for new ways to make following the Robins as affordable as possible.

“Our season members not only get the equivalent of five home games for free with their membership, but by teaming up with other clubs such as the Vikings we’re hoping to offer our fans cheaper tickets to help offset some of the costs associated with supporting the team on the road.

“We’re delighted to be working with the Vikings on this venture and we’re confident that if this is a success, and both clubs see an uplift in away fans travelling to each other’s games, it is something other clubs will want to get involved with too.

“Traditionally, our fans travel in great numbers up and down the country and that passion is something the club has always appreciated. Hopefully, this partnership will reward those fans for their commitment and encourage some more to make the trip and back the boys away from home during 2015.”

Vikings Marketing Director Brian O’Connor added: “As a club, we want to do all we can to reward our stakeholders who commit to the club on a seasonal basis. Although, as a sport we pride ourselves on the affordability of our game, we are also aware that these costs can be significantly increased when following your team home and away on a regular basis with other aspects that are out of our control such as rising fuel prices.

“This offer will be eligible to our 2015 Season Pass holders and 2015 Stronghold Members who purchase a ticket in advance of the away fixture with Hull KR.

“It would be great if supporters from both clubs showed their support of the concept by travelling in numbers to both Super League XX fixtures as this will allow us a platform to present the model to other Super League teams and grow the concept in the future.”

Although full details are yet to be confirmed, both clubs have agreed that general adult tickets for the game will be reduced to £15 for away fans.
