Hull claimed the bragging rights of the city after holding off a brave Hull KR fightback in the first ever Super League derby between the two.

The visitors never recovered from a shaky start, when two knock ons gifted Hull tries through Dannu Tickle, after Jon Goddard's error, and then from Shaun Briscoe, taking advantage of Byron Ford's knock on.

Rovers struck back before the break to give themselves hope throughLuke Dyer, and they continued to press after the interval.

But an 80 yard kick return by Motu Tony set Matt Sing up for Hull's third try, to stretch the lead to 18-4.

Tries from David Tangata-Toa and Andreas Bauer set up a grandstand finish, but Sid Domic sealed the two points for struggling Hull with a last minute score.
